Exhibitions

We are currently living the time of promotion of cultural heritage. We promote to know, to preserve and to please, which is why not many cultural events are more popular than big exhibitions.

From the beginning of the 1990s, the University of Seville felt a clear necessity to share its own heritage. Therefore, it began participating in different exhibitions across Spain sharing some of its works by request. The spread of the importance of the university's heritage was reflected in a great number of catalogues which, without any doubt, contributed to society’s acknowledgement of this immense richness.

In addition to this fact, one of the main events in the history of the university heritage took place in 1995—the Universitas Hispalensis exhibition, an event which happened on account of the University of Seville’s fifth centenary celebrations. For the first time, some of the institution’s most emblematic cultural pieces were displayed in a monographic exhibition. Later on, other exhibitions would follow.

Finally, the creation of its own website in 2004, which is now launching its second version, was a remarkable achievement for spreading the University of Seville’s cultural heritage. This externalisation has brought on the discovery and recognition of its heritage from prestigious institutions and important museums. This has allowed the University of Seville to be a part of international exhibitions, such as The Sacred made Real exhibition, organised by the National Gallery of London and the National Gallery of Art of Washington; the exhibition Sacred Spain: Art and Belief in the Spanish World, organised by the International Museum of Art of Indianapolis in 2009, and Caminos del Barroco: entre Andalucía y Nueva España (the paths of Baroque: between Andalucia and New Spain), which is nowadays on display in various cities across Mexico.
